QUESTION I want to run a carb spacer with your intake. what is better open center or four hole?
ANSWER Results will vary from application to application. However on average a four hole spacer will emphasize low to mid throttle response open center will accentuate the top end. Phenolic spacer will help reduce the chances of percolation.
QUESTION I am running aftermarket heads with raised or oversized intake runners will I have a problem with gasket sealing.
ANSWER Unless otherwise specified in the catalog listing the intakes are designed for stock port height. The port dimensions are also listed in the catalog. look for any footnotes and if in doubt please contact Tech Service at 1-270-781-9741
QUESTION What torque specification should my new intake manifold bolts be installed at?
ANSWER Follow the torque specification as outlined in your instruction manual following the factory sequence unless otherwise specified.
QUESTION I have your 2bbl TBI intake manifold for a small block chevy and my EGR valve hits the Throttle body why?
ANSWER The intake manifold is not designed for 1987 or later trucks. If you EGR is hitting you have a 1987 or newer truck. A Standard Motor Products EGR valve number EGV350 or a Carter EGR relocate will usually remedy this problem.
QUESTION The distributor hole on my new intake is larger than stock. Is this normal?
ANSWER Yes. most performance aftermarket intakes utilize a larger than stock distributor hole. The distributor is centered by the block not by the intake
QUESTION My new big block Chevy intake does not have bolt holes between the ports. is this OK?
ANSWER Yes due to the large port configuration of many performance intakes the upper bolts can not be utilized Felpro offers the appropriate gaskets for this application.
QUESTION Should I use the rubber or cork seals under the front and rear of the intake?
ANSWER Unless otherwise specified in the intake manifold installation instructions you should use a high quality RTV such as Permatex ultra black to seal the front and rear of the intake.
QUESTION My intake manifold does not sit low enough in the intake valley to install the bolts why?
ANSWER At some point either your heads and or block were surface milled resulting in a narrower intake valley. Your intake will need to be machined accordingly to compensate for the variances associated with this situation.
QUESTION Will this intake fit under my hood?
ANSWER Due to the unlimited amount of variables that exist you will need to check your available hood clearances on your particular. The catalog will show you the installed height of the intake above the block surface. If you can not find the intake height listing please contact tech service at 1-270-781-9741 remember to calculate the height of your carb and air cleaner into the equation. the average Holley carb is 3.25" from the base to the air cleaner flange and around 5" over all in height.
QUESTION My intake is designed for a square or spread bore carburetor I am currently using a square bore carburetor and have a problem with a vacuum leak at the base what should I do?
ANSWER You will need to run a # 9006 sealing plate. It is around 1/16" thick.
