In just his second race with Hooker's all-new RacingHeart 3-Step Dragster Headers, Greg Coffman emerged victorious in a $10,000-to-win event at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. With just one time-trial run to dial in his new combination before eliminations got under way (virtually every other car in the race had been there for three days), Coffman proceeded to mow down more than 130 drivers with consistent 4.40s at 155 mph over eight grueling rounds. "It's my home track, and the place has always been good to me," said Coffman, 39, who was runner-up at the prestigious NHRA Sportsnationals there a couple years ago. "This is about my eighth win at one of those '10-granders,' but I don't think the car ever ran any better than this. My 330-foot times varied by just 11-thousandths [of a second] all day, and you can't ask for more than that." It wasn't just any set of headers that helped carry Coffman to victory – it was the very set Holley engineers used to create the design, the actual prototypes themselves. Derrick Borders and Holley engineers knew an experienced racer like Coffman and an established platform like his 615 cubic-inch Huntsville Engines powerplant with SR 20 Series Brodix aluminum cylinder heads and Quick Fuel carburetor would be the perfect platform to work out the bugs with the new big-block Chevy headers. Only there weren't any bugs. "We took them to the track and bolted 'em on, and they worked perfectly the first time out," said Coffman, a Bowling Green resident who lives just 14 miles from Beech Bend. "They're good quality at an affordable price – especially for polished stainless steel. [They're also available in chrome.] They're staying on the car. People are going to want these things."
