Edge Products’ CTS3 Lineup Brings Capability And Sharp Looks To Your Diesel Rig

Back in the late 90s, Edge Products set out to make a name for themselves in the diesel performance scene with tuning modules that were designed to adjust fueling on early iterations of the Cummins and Power Stroke engines. As time went on, the Ogden, Utah-based outfit introduced increasingly sophisticated solutions for diesel tuning, along with intakes, exhaust systems, and other components with an unwavering focus on delivering results.

“The goal has always been to develop products that are intuitive to use and offer increased performance, improved drivability, and better towing capability,” says Edge’s Matt Barker. “And as the technology has continued to advance, we’ve been focusing a little more on the monitoring side.”

Leveraging their decades of experience in diesel tuning, Edge has now unveiled its next generation digital gauge and tuner systems. These slick devices not only bring a sharp, modern aesthetic to the cabin of your truck, they also offer a wealth of features that can lead the way to better towing, improved parts longevity, and greater performance.

Insight CTS3

The latest version of Edge’s best-selling Insight digital gauge monitor is faster, slimmer, and more advanced than ever before. As with previous generations of Insight monitors, installation couldn’t be simpler – just plug into your vehicle’s OBD-II port and you’re ready to rock ’n roll. And thanks to its faster processor, the CTS3 boots up in a fraction of the time versus its predecessor, taking just two seconds to bring up the gauge screen after it’s been powered up.

Boasting a five-inch high-resolution capacitive touchscreen display with user-configurable gauge layouts, backgrounds, and other customization options, the Insight CTS3 is designed to put the vehicle parameters that matter to you right up front while showcasing your aesthetic style.

“It’s a very intuitive interface with a great looking display, and there’s a ton of information offered here that you just won’t get from the factory cluster,” Barker explains. “You can watch up to sixteen parameters simultaneously, and you can just swipe through the menus much like you would on a smartphone. Information like exhaust gas temperature, fuel pressure, transmission temperature are vital to diesel performance, and the Insight provides a much more detailed and accurate depiction of what’s going on under the hood than the OE gauges can.”

Edge products OBD2 and EAS ports

Both the Insight CTS3 and Evolution CTS3 directly link into the vehicle via the OBD-II port. Additional sensors, such as an EGT probe or a virtual power switch, can be added-in via the Expandable Accessory System (EAS) port.

And that information not only provides a better understanding of how the truck is performing, it can also help prevent undue maintenance costs down the road. “In a towing environment, exhaust gas temperatures are a big deal,” he points out. “The purpose of an EGT reading is to determine how hot your turbo is getting – excessive EGTs can lead to increased turbo wear and problems with other components. If you’re towing a heavy load up a grade and you’re kind of lugging it – the RPMs and boost aren’t really up high enough – your EGTs can skyrocket, and you might not even know that’s happening with a factory cluster. But with this monitor, it can provide an indication that you need to downshift to get everything back on an even keel.”

Along with its ability to monitor parameters like boost levels, RPMs, regen cycles, and oil temperatures, the Insight CTS3 also allows the end user to make adjustments for modifications that may affect the accuracy of the factory gauges. “For instance, our monitor has a correction factor built into it for vehicle speed, so if you’ve got larger tires than what the truck had from the factory, it can be calibrated to compensate for that, or to compensate for different gear ratios.”

The Insight CTS3 also features a suite of performance-focused features, like 0-60 and quarter mile timers, along with data logging capability, and its integrated accessory system allows you to add additional gauges or can control switches for lighting, compressors, winches, and other auxiliary components.

Evolution CTS3

Edge CTS3 Evolution

The Evolution CTS3 provides you with the ability to add multiple licenses to the same device, in turn allowing you to tune several different vehicles with one product. Along with its daily driving, performance, and towing tunes, the Evolution CTS3 allows you to make changes to shift points, shift firmness, torque management, fuel pressure, and other performance parameters.

Although the Insight CTS3 is a sophisticated piece in its own right, the Evolution CTS3 takes things a step further. It sports the same high-end hardware and array of features that the Insight provides, but the Evolution CTS3 also brings tuning into the mix. Offering fully vetted and CARB-legal tunes for daily driving, towing, performance, and extreme use, these calibrations can offer performance gains of up to 180 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque in certain diesel applications.

“And that’s to the tire,” Barker notes. “The system is making changes across the board to adjust boost levels, timing, and fuel delivery to achieve improvements like these, and the different tune levels allow you to decide how much you want to turn up the wick. So, for example, with a 2006 or 2007 Cummins, the Evolution CTS3 has a 55hp setting, an 80hp setting, a 115hp setting, and a 175hp/475 lb-ft setting. So it provides incremental performance levels based on what you’re using it for.”

Edge Products swiping

Moving screen-to-screen with either the Insight or Evolution is simple: it works just like your smartphone. Just swipe and tap!

Notably, the Evolution CTS3 also gives you the ability to add vehicle licenses to the same device, allowing you to tune multiple vehicles with one product.

Both the Insight CTS3 and Evolution CTS3 are available now, with the latter currently offering support for 2001-2016 6.6-liter GM Duramax, 1994-2019 Ford Power Stroke, and 2003-2012 Dodge Cummins engines, along with a number of different gasoline-powered applications. Barker tells us that Edge engineers are currently developing support for additional vehicles as well.

“Tuning the newer Duramax L5P engines is a more complex process, so we’re finishing up development for those now, and we’ll be releasing tuning products for them in the coming months. Similarly, we’re going to be releasing new products with emissions compliance for the 2013-and-up Cummins engines as well as the 2020 and 2021 Fords in order to bring all of our coverage up to the current offerings.”
