Guess What Holley is Bringing to the Intergalactic Ford Festival? A Fairmont Wagon!

Don't look now, but the Holley Performance gang will have our own Ford at the inaugural Intergalactic Ford Festival Sept. 26-29 in Bowling Green. It's not a Fox Body or even some late-model Mustang – there'll be plenty of them prowling Beech Bend Raceway Park all weekend. Instead, we went with – what else? – a '78 Ford Fairmont station wagon. Don't laugh – the only undefeated car in the history of NHRA championship drag racing was Bob Glidden's '78 Fairmont that won nine races in a row, from the 1978 Summernationals in Englishtown, N.J., to the season-ending World Finals in Ontario, Calif., amassing an unblemished 29-0 win-loss record.

As it sits, our "hot rod," which had, oh, about about a gallon of water in the left rear door when Holley Media Strategist Keith Jessee dragged it back to Holley headquarters in Bowling Green, needs a little help. It has a tired 302 cubic-inch small block with a 600 CFM Holley double pumper carburetor and shorty headers. Behind the firewall is a SPEC Stage 3 clutch, a GT T5 manual transmission with a Hurst shifter and a line-loc that came out of a Fox Body Mustang, and an 8.8-inch Ford rear end with a 4.11:1 ring and pinion.

What will be under the hood when this beast hits Beech Bend? Who knows – it's already doing wheelies as it is. Got a good idea? Let us know!
