Infinity ECU’s Engine Protect Keeps Sipes Racing’s Avid Motorsports/Speedfactory
All Motor Civic Going After Throttle Position Sensor Fails at Woodburn Dragstrip
August 12, 2013, Hawthorne, CA – Earlier in the season, NHRA Superstock record holder Carey Bales recounted how at his first 2013 NHRA event with the Infinity his car experienced a dramatic drop in fuel pressure at high boost. Instead of melting a piston or worse, the Infinity on his turbocharged F22 compensated for the fuel pressure drop and allowed him to complete the pass. In a similar occurrence, the Infinity again allowed the All-Motor Avid Racing Civic owned by Joel Sipes of Sipes Racing and tuned by Speedfactory Tuning & Race Fabrication to not only complete a pass after the TPS sensor failed during a run, but go fast enough to advance to the next round.
Speedfactory tuning expert James Kempf recounts the event; “At the Woodburn Import Faceoff (IFO) race we had the TPS sensor fail (wild erratic readings), and our fueling map is TPS based! We made a full pass like that and the Infinity was still able to keep the fueling values safe and no harm was done to the engine. It actually went 9.99 @ 135 MPH like that, with the TPS readings swinging wildly between 40-90% during the run, which is pretty impressive. With the previous system we were running, if a TPS sensor failed the car would just stumble and we wouldn't even be able to make a pass. We fixed the sensor and Joel went on to take the win in the AMP class.”
James continued, “They then decided to let the AMP (all motor pro) cars jump into the FIS (Forced Induction Sport) class and race. Joel was #1 qualifier out of the entire field of turbo cars (approximately 20 cars IIRC) but unfortunately red-lit against one of our other cars in the semi-final.”
The Infinity EMS delivers high-end engine control for the racing masses at a fraction of the cost. Built around a latest-generation 200MHz automotive processor, the Infinity is capable of processing 400 MIPS (millions of instructions per second). All Infinity systems come fully enabled without the need for feature add-on purchases. Combined with AEM’s industry leading after-purchase support system, including free technical support, the Infinity is the ultimate engine control solution for both professional race teams and weekend track cars.
The Infinity’s airflow-based tuning models simplify start up and speed up the tuning process by eliminating many of the lookup and trim tables (Correction Tables) necessary in previous generation ECUs. Each Infinity ECU includes ignition coil outputs and injector drivers equivalent to its name.
