Poteet's Amazing Holley HP EFI-Powered '36 Ford Judged America's Most Beautiful Roadster

Land-speed record-holder and all-time hot-rodding great George Poteet’s unbelievable ‘36 Ford beat out more than a dozen worthy machines, including the Howerton Moal Tulsa Roadster and the Taulbert Roadster, to win the coveted America’s Most Beautiful Roadster award at the 70th annual Grand National Roadster Show in Pomona, Calif. His '36 Ford, controlled by a Holley HP ECU on a Borla Eight Stack injection setup, is the latest in a long line of automotive achievements for Poteet, who has topped 400 mph and set countless records on the Bonneville Salt Flats and won Street Rodder of the Year, Hot Rodder of the Year, and the Ridler Award.



Built by Eric Peratt and the mechanical master craftsmen at Pinkee's Rod Shop in Windsor, Colo., the intricately detailed beauty is named “3 Penny” and painted a milky grayish-brown in reference to the price of the chocolate milk Poteet loved as a tiny tot back in 1936. It features a windshield raked 10 degrees and a wheelbase three inches longer than stock (from 112 inches to 115), an interior stretched three inches longer than stock, and an overall height chopped three inches lower.



Poteet’s incredible creation is powered by a 351 cubic-inch Windsor Ford with specially machined one-of-a-kind valve covers mated to a Tremec TKO 600 five-speed transmission and a Winters Performance quick-change rear end. It reaps all the benefits of the state-of-the-art Holley HP ECU yet retains an old-school appearance because the wiring is hidden behind a fake firewall. The sleek, flowing body has been subtly tweaked at every curve and features literally hundreds of custom-designed one-off components from Pinkee’s, including a four-piece center-hinge hood, hand-built doors, recessed running boards, exposed door latches, a 1939-style deck lid, and a custom cowl vent screen. Everything rides on spline-hub billet aluminum knock-off wheels inspired by the cast magnesium racing wheels of days gone by, and every inch is a work of art, from the 34-slat grille to the rear license plate with three embedded 1936 pennies.
