Question: What’s Your Greatest Hack?

It might not be something you are proud of, but it got your wheels turning again. The hacks that many a self-mechanic have done to get the job done are a true rite of passage. It’s time to reveal what your favorite is, and no one will be judging—we’ve probably done it too.

Restoration Hack:

One of our favorite resto hacks is to use furniture polish when cleaning up an old dash gauge cluster. A simple and gentle wipe of polish over the faces of the gauges will bring back the shine and provide a layer of anti-static protection that will last and last. Additionally, furniture polish will hide the fine scratches on the clear lens over the gauges, making it look like new!

Save the Day Hack:

True story, we once had a fuel pump go out on one of our classic trucks during a road trip. It was about 25 miles to the closest auto parts store or service station, and this was BEFORE the advent of the cell phone. So, we bypassed the fuel pump and re-routed the fuel line through the windshield washer pump. we’d hold the washer pump button down for 20-30 seconds and fill the carb, then when it started to run out of fuel we’d do it again. It wasn’t a perfect fix, but it got us off the side of the road and finally to a spot we could make a proper repair!

Now it’s your chance to show off your garage knowledge. Tell us about what you use that just works, whether it should or not. We won’t judge, we promise.
