Team Superchips Finished on the Podium at Idaho x Rocks

This weekend was the kick-off of the 2015 Idaho X Rocks series in Nampa, Idaho, and hundreds of spectators showed up to watch 37 teams compete. The event site at Tate Elquist’s home looks like a scene out of a rock crawler’s version of Field of Dreams. A farmhouse with a large shop sits about 30 feet from a professional level man made rock crawling course. Since 2010, the events have grown to become some of the largest competitions in the country.

The X Rocks event actually featured the largest number of unlimited class competitors I’ve seen at a competition in quite a while. The courses were full of difficult bonuses, and spotter Mike Berard and I did our best to try them all. Although that was exciting for the spectators, that strategy was our downfall at the short, one-day event. We were the first team to attempt the 3 biggest bonus climbs, and our mistakes there took us out of contention to win. In the end, we had to settle for 3rd place.

Thank you to all of the sponsors that support the team this season. We gave the car a pretty good beating, but it’s been super reliable with the awesome parts that went into the build of Pokey last year. In two weeks, Team Superchips will be back in action, defending our 2014 win, at the Old School Rock Crawl in Delta, Utah. The OSRC was the largest rock crawling competition in the U.S. last year with 50 registered teams.
