Works just like OEM

easy install during an install of new gauges. I suppose it could be installed without removal of the gauge cluster, but I never tried. On the backside, it's simply unplug the old, insert the new thru the dash hole from behind and plug the wire back in and screw the nut behind the knob. My old unit only had one speed working, and the washer was not working. My washer still isn't working so I cannot say its this new unit either, but now have two speeds: slow and just a tad more than slow. :)
