Because distributors are driven by the camshaft, timing-chain slack, cam twist, and valvetrain harmonics can adversely affect ignition timing accuracy. Flying Magnet Crank Triggers accurately reference ignition timing events right from the crankshaft – eliminating all those mechanical variables that plague lesser systems. MSD Flying Magnet Crank Triggers use four magnets secured in an aluminum trigger wheel that pass by a stationary non-magnetic pick-up to trigger the ignition. This "flying magnet" design eliminates false triggering because only the moving magnets can trigger the pickup. A CNC-machined aluminum bracket securely holds the pick-up in place and is slotted to provide a broad range of timing adjustment.
