What happens when the owner of a five-second, Drag Week-proven machine decides that he's going to throw his own event? You get Tom Bailey's Sick Week, which is kicking off it's first-ever event this year. Does it seem a bit early in the year to hit the road and the racetracks? Normally, yes, the beginning of February could be considered a bit early, but in Florida and Georgia, the temperatures are still nice and inviting for a fleet of racers who want to get a running start at the 2022 season. 350 machines made the migration to Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida to get checked in and prepared to go on the adventure, with Bailey himself counted among the racers who are going to hit the road. Testing on Registration Day was going on before the TBM Brakes Pre-Event Party held at Cleetus McFarland's Freedom Factory.
The schedule for Sick Week 2022:
Between the beginning and the end of Sick Week, racers will get the chance to experience the Southeast's attractions, such as a "Beach Day with Ice Cream" and "Springs and Southern Food". There is also a visit to the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum, so if teams aren't ripping their engines apart in parts store parking lots or trying to figure out how to ratchet-strap a hood to the roof so the engine can stay a few degrees below "meltdown", they will be entertained and should not want anything when it comes to food. Here's a taste of what showed up on Registration Day:
Steve Morris brought out his "Boost Master" wagon out. Built by Skinny Kid Race Cars, the Caprice-meets-Roadmaster mashup of B-body goodness has already clicked off a [email protected] MPH.
Tom Bailey brought out the "Sick Seconds 2.0" Camaro with the goal of trying to make a 5-second pass at every race track.
"Nicky Bobby" Taylor shocked a lot of his fellow competitors when his brand-new third-gen Camaro blasted out a 7.19 @ 194 MPH after only three passes.
Alex Taylor's 1955 Chevy is present and accounted for, with test runs putting the shoebox into 7.50 territory.
Jarrod Scott brought out his Dennis Taylor-built 1962 Ford Ranchero. His goal? To take the Gasser class win.
Joe Barry brought out his well-traveled 1956 Chevrolet with the intent of breaking into the 7-second zone at every track.
