Bart – The NMCA bluegrass Nationals was the next race on the list. Bowling green is one of my favorite places to race with its beautiful hills and it family friendly track side setting. We arrived on Thursday with a very strong chance of rain on all 3 days of racing. We went up for first round of qualifying on Friday and had ignition issues that we would later find out that the crank trigger had touched down and was causing faulty reading. We chased the issues for several hours and finally found where the crank trigger touched down on the wheel. Going up for the second round of qualifying on Saturday we did not have any data and we spun the tires about 30 feet out on a hot and greasy track. The rain did not allow a third round of qualifying but we were still sitting 4th in the 8 car field. The rain forecast for Sunday was worse than any other day, but as it turned out it was the nicest day of the weekend.
In the first round we ran Scott grove in his Nitrous powered fox body and we both left at the same time…. he spun first then shortly after I spun at about 30 feet out. I was able to recover quicker than he did and made it to the finish line first. The semi final we had to run the number one qualifier Jesse Coulter in his 1991 Camaro. We backed the rpm down on the 2 step so we wold leave a little softer and took some boost out throughout the 60 foot, fortunately for us Jess spun the tires immediately and we just cruised down the track running a 7.94 @ 167 mph. In the final round we ran Louie Filippides who was running 2 classes in his 2010 Camaro and had just won his final in Real street. We knew we had to step up the power a little to beat him. We raised the launch rpm and added more boost, but the car did not respond, we both left the staring line together and Louie spun and then spun again, as we cruised to the Victory with a 7.94 @176 mph.
Overall we had a great weekend despite it raining most of the time (seems like a trend). We were able to get our first NMCA Xtreme street win and our first win in the new car. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come!
