The words fuel injection and stock cars are not used in the same sentence very often and until now were most commonly put together when discussing the NASCAR Sprint Cup series. Now, that discussion has expanded to include the ARCA stock car series as twenty-five of the forty car field in the ARCA Lucas Oil 200 were powered by the new Ilmor 396 engine and Holley EFI, on February 14th, 2015. Event winner Grant Enfinger was running the new engine in his #23 Alamo Rent-A-Car Chevrolet as well as second place finisher Daniel Suarez in his #15 Arris Toyota. Every ARCA/Ilmor engine features a Holley EFI electronic control unit, air valve, Hooker Headers, and Earl’s plumbing. A Holley Dominator fuel pump and Holley’s revolutionary HydraMat fuel reservoir supplied the fuel to the engines. The other 15 cars in the starting field were powered by Holley HP carburetors including the third place car of Brett Hudson (#09 Dodge), making the event a complete sweep for Holley products. The 200 mile race was run at the famed Daytona International Speedway and the ARCA/Ilmor 396 engine helped make for some exciting racing as over half the field stayed packed up, sided by side for most of the race at speeds over 180 mph. "ARCA deserves a lot of credit," Enfinger said about the new ARCA Ilmor 396 engine package. "I think the racing was better. I can't remember a Daytona this exciting where there was two- and three-wide racing for the lead. There were two lines moving at all times." Two other Venturini Motorsports drivers finished in the top five in addition to Suarez. The others were fourth place finisher Cody Coughlin in the No. 55 JEGS Toyota and Frank Kimmel fifth in the No. 25 Ansell-Menards Toyota, both using the new Ilmor engine with Holley EFI. “This is an exciting time for our company”, said Holley’s Director of Marketing, Bill Tichenor. “Our carburetors have powered stock car racers for literally millions of miles and I have always been proud as I have watched those races. That was happening long before I ever started at Holley, so to be on hand and see our fuel injection and other products make their debut on stock cars was a tremendous feeling. When the cars made their first lap at full speed it was a great moment for the race teams, ARCA, Ilmor, and of course all of the Holley team members that worked so hard to make it happen.” The race took one hour, 30 minutes and 25 seconds to complete for an average speed of 132.719 mph. Saturday's Lucas Oil 200 presented by Auto Zone will be rebroadcast at 10 a.m. on FOX Sports 1 on Thursday, February 19. The ARCA Racing Series, presented by Menards, has a bit of a break leading up to its second race of the season, which will be March 14 at Mobile International Speedway in Mobile, Ala.
