Ross Smith had no problem sharing the information for Holley's Upgrade Your F-Body sweepstakes with his F-body club friends when he saw the notification for the sweepstakes arrive in an email. After signing himself up, he encouraged his fellow club members to do the same. He certainly wasn't expecting the phone call to come through that informed him that he had actually won the $1,000 in Holley store credit to happen, but in this case we'd like to think that his good karma was being repaid. "I was shocked to say the least when I found out," he told us. Most people usually are!

Having been in the auto industry for years working for a variety of companies, including Chevrolet, BMW, Jaguar/Land Rover and Harley-Davidson, it's no surprise that Smith has a project car that is worthy of the cause. His 1991 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 has already seen quite a bit of work as it transforms into a Pro Touring-style build. The 25th anniversary Camaro has already received a host of Detroit Speed goodies, including a complete front suspension kit and a full complement of Detroit Speed parts on the Moser-equipped fourth-gen F-body rear axle. A set of Brembo brakes from a Cadillac CTS-V sit up front to and work in tandem with the fourth-gen rear discs out back. Sitting in place of where the automatic transmission used to be is a T5 World Class transmission. "Originally, I was going to keep the motor stock for now, since I have already spent quite a bit on suspension and brakes," Ross told us. But he did hint towards an LS6 that is sitting on an engine stand that is getting an MSD Atomic AirForce intake manifold with some of the winnings.

We asked about the purpose behind the Camaro's build. "The car was purchased as a father and son project," he told us. "I wanted to use this car to teach [his son] how to work on cars." If young Dean seems a bit too young to be arms-deep in the engine bay at the moment, you might be right. But between watching Dad wrench on the car and the smile spread across his face as he sits in the Camaro, we think that Ross has a full-fledged gearhead on his hands.
