Adjusting the shift rods is made simpler with an alignment tool, which you can use to align every arm. Have everything in neutral, start with reverse, and then move to the 1-2 shift rod and finally the 3-4 shift rod. When you're done, everything should fall in place easily and you'll be ready for the final step: adjusting the stops. To do that, just turn each one in until it touches, back it off a quarter-turn, tighten the jam nut, and you'll good to go for thousands of miles, bang through the gears with tighter, more accurate shifts.
