After having so much fun last year, Mike and Kelly Trenkle made the trek from their Elizabeth, Colorado home to the Holley Intergalactic Ford Festival to compete in the Grand Champion Competition with their 1982 Mustang. The early fox body Mustang sports tricks Mike made himself via trial and error. Inspired by the DTM Mustangs of the early 1990's (pretty cool: look them up), the wide body fenders and hood are carbon fiber--Trenkle's first foray into composites.

The fenders cover 12-inch wide wheels and gummy 315-wide Yokohama A052 tires at each corner of the fat-flared fox. Mike even fabricated much of the SLA and rear pushrod suspension himself. "I used cardboard cutouts to figure out how make it work." And work it does. Both Mike and is wife Kelly exercise the 363-cube small-block Ford and Tremec TKO gearbox during the Grand Champion autocross, drag race, and 3S events. We tip our hats to the Trenkles for the fabulous foxy ingenuity they brought to Holley's Intergalactic Ford Festival.
