Driving off-road can get physically challenging when the terrain gets rough and your vehicle gets tipsy. But there’s no need to feel like a rag doll bouncing around the cabin of your rig. A good harness is a must, however many enthusiasts overlook the importance of their vehicle’s seats – all bucket seats are not created equal.
That’s why Simpson Racing has developed a new line of off-road suspension seats designed for popular UTVs. A suspension seat basically consists of a metal frame and a liner suspended from it, using parachute cord. “This forms a trampoline-like structure that’s pulled taut, but it’s not rigid like a metal or fiberglass seat pan found in some seats,” says Russ Somers, Product Development Manager at Simpson Performance Products. “On top of that, we use three different density foams in key areas for added padding and comfort. The end goal is to take over when the vehicle’s suspension is maxed out and lessen the transmission of impact vibrations and mechanical shock to the body.”
“OE manufacturers,” continues Somers, “in an effort to cut costs or even because they’re more focused on horsepower and suspension travel, don’t make seats a big priority. We’re happy to pick up the slack. We use military-spec parachute cord, anti-rip liners, and we choose higher quality goods when it comes to foams and outer cover materials.”

The basic principle behind Simpson suspension seats is simple but effective – a metal frame and a liner suspended from it, using parachute cord. “This forms a trampoline-like structure that’s pulled taut," says Russ Somers of Simpson. "But it’s not rigid like a metal or fiberglass seat pan found in some seats,”
The tube-style frame of Simpson suspension seats is mated to a laser-cut seat base that utilizes a variety of different modular mounting rails. The seats also feature superior containment compared to factory OEM seats, to keep you securely planted in side-loading situations.
Simpson employs marine-grade vinyl and precisely formed and layered multiple-density high quality foams to ensure these suspension seats are up to any challenge. But it’s not all about toughness: Simpson also offers heating elements that include a wiring harness and power switch. The seats can be ordered in five different color combinations – black with accent colors consisting of red, charcoal, orange, blue, and black on black.
Simpson also offers accessories to bring even more comfort to the off-road experience. Seat heaters and harness pads are easy add-ons that can make a big difference in the level of enjoyment you get from off-roading.
Simpson suspension seats have a universal base design making them ideal for a wide variety of UTVs, and they can be custom fitted into buggies, Jeeps, and most off-road vehicles. Check the Holley website for seat mount kits designed for popular UTV makes and models.
Thanks to years of ongoing development, Simpson off-road suspension seats offer superior materials, superior build quality, and superior performance compared to stock UTV seats. Check them out for yourself and take your side-by-side driving experience to the next level.
