Dancing In The Desert At The 2022 Goodguys Spring Shootout In Scottsdale

The second event of the 2022 Goodguys Autocross Series of events saw the field of autocrossers competing for points make the trek to WestWorld in Scottsdale, Arizona for the Spring Shootout, sponsored by G-Comp by Speedway Motors. The area of Scottsdale that WestWorld sits in should be fairly familiar to many enthusiasts...the Barrett-Jackson and Russo and Steele auction houses are just a short drive away, as is the Penske Racing Museum. With an abundance of sunshine and warm temperatures, racers had nothing to worry about from the weather. Instead, any issues would be narrowed down to the durability of their vehicles and the rival of any autocrosser, the timer.

One of the big highlights for the 2022 season is the new Sports Car class, which is sponsored by Gearstar Performance Transmissions and Converters. Sports Car is a class for vehicles made between 1988 and 1997 to compete in and effectively bridges the gap between the classic musclecars and the high-performing modern-era machines. This opens up a field of cars that previously didn't have many options to race at a GoodGuys event, such as later Fox and SN-95 Mustangs, fourth-generation Camaros and Firebirds, trucks, and more.

The next scheduled events for the Goodguys Autocross Series are as follows: the American AutoCross Shootout in Pleasanton, California (March 26-27, 2022), the CPP "Duel In The Desert" in Del Mar, California (April 1-3, 2022) and the Gearstar "Rumble in Raleigh" Shootout" in Raleigh, North Carolina (April 22-24, 2022). Goodguys22 Scottsdale Robby Unser

Robby Unser was ripping his Speedway-built Camaro around the autocross. He was in the top three fastest cars all weekend.

Goodguys22 Scottsdale Pichettes

Tom Pichette works in the deeper recesses of wife Valerie's Pontiac Trans Am GTA. Valerie and co-driver Mark Golovin led the sports car class all weekend until a clutch problem put them out of competition.

Goodguys22 Scottsdale Daytona

Wes Drelleshak was the overall fastest all weekend in the Sheely Collection Daytona, despite having multiple engine-related issues.

Goodguys22 Scottsdale Indigo Army

Mike from Indigo Army brought out his Ford pre-runner and put on a show for everyone! He was able to save it from tipping over after going up on two wheels.

Goodguys22 Scottsdale Sports Car Class

The all-new Sports Car class brought out many new cars, including multiple C4 Corvettes that showed that they can compete well with both the newer and older cars.
