If you were asked to name the top five most-used terms in car culture, I’d bet my house on “bolt-on” being one of them. At the 2021 LS Fest East, we issued a challenge to anybody willing to turn some wrenches. We supplied two long blocks, a pile of bolt-on Holley parts and our friends at BOXO brought in their SAE Metric Hand Carry Set to help with assembling the parts. We let anyone who wanted to give it a try loose and timed them. It’s time to prove who the fastest tech at LS Fest was. Prizes awaited the winners:

1st Place – 26” Pro Series 6-drawer Tool Box, Master Toolset, and more.

2nd Place – SAE Metric Hand Carry Box

3rd Place – Tool Bag & 80-piece Tool Kit

Since we had two engines on stands ready, we mixed the parts up a little bit. On one side, we had our black intake, valve covers and Accel coil packs. On the other side, we went with a silver finish and MSD coil packs. The parts we had the contestants install included our Sniper Dual Plenum intake, Dual 105mm throttle bodies, Earl’s Coolant Crossover, Hooker Blackheart Turbo Headers, valley pan and more. While this looks like a fairly small pile of parts, it’s a time-consuming task. We had a few guys take a look and guess it’d take them under 10 minutes to throw it all together. They weren’t even close.

After nearly 50 contestants over 10 hours, we ended up with David Barnett coming out on top with an 18.01.77. They say if you aren’t first, you’re last. This didn’t apply to our 2nd and 3rd place winners as they still ended up with some awesome BOXO products. 2nd place contestant Andy Likes ended up with the exact tool kit he used in the challenge and 3rd place contestant Gunner Ewert ended up with their incredible roll-up Tool bag and 80-piece tool kit. That sounds like a win to us!
