Roadkill Nights Presented By Dodge: Coverage from Woodward Ave

08/19/2022

Roadkill Nights is inarguably one of the most exciting events of the summer and has a flavor for every gearhead's taste. Timed to run with the famous Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise, Roadkill Nights takes over the M1 Concourse, just southeast of Pontiac, Michigan, for a one-day blowout that includes Dodge's Thrill Rides and Drift Laps, a Direct Connection grudge race that brought out builders who were tapped to use a Hellcrate Redeye crate engine in the vehicle of their choice, and, of course, completely legal street racing on Woodward Avenue! This year was nothing short of a record setter for the event, with racers ripping down the 1/8th mile section of Woodward that had been converted into a dragstrip, tons of fans enjoying the spectacle, and Dodge simultaneously dropping some insane automotive unveils. Check out some of the highlights from the event below:

Three of the competitors in the Hellcat Grudge Race line up on Friday afternoon before the big shootout. The winner of eight automotive social media influences will compete in a chip pull ladder. The winner takes on Alex Taylor in her Hot Rod Garage ’55 Savoy. Every vehicle was powered by a Hellcat engine in nearly any Mopar Body they could fit it into.

The longer you stare at the “Scraptona” the more cool details you find. This custom Daytona was swarmed all weekend with fans trying to take a look.

Tech at Roadkill Nights is serious business. The most important attribute every car was inspected for was proper safety equipment, brakes, and parachute. Thankfully, every car had a safe time this weekend.

“Garbage That Barfed” has received much of its notoriety and acclaim from its success in drag and drive events across the country. It was no surprise to see the heavily chopped ’41 Pontiac Silver Streak wearing its creative patina destroying some tires at Sick Skids on Friday Night.

LS-swap everything. This XJ Jeep was screaming with LS-power and obliterated its massive mud tires much to the delight of the crowd.

The only “double pop” of the night at Sick Skids!

Two Challengers stand by in the water box on Woodward Avenue to race 1/8 mile down an exceptionally well-prepped strip.

Fan-favorite, David Schroeder, took out his Drag Week-winning C2 Corvette. Don’t confuse this for his other Drag Week Corvette that won Drag Week 2022, that was his C7 Body car that was featured in Holly Motor Life this year.

Tom Bailey took out his OG Camaro for Roadkill and we were told he was the quickest car of the weekend - posting a 4.11 1/8 mile time down Woodward!

The winner of coolest vehicle at Roadkill may have to be awarded to this insane turbocharged International Scout that had a pension for driving on 3 wheels.

Nobody was trying to save money on front tires more than this GMC S-15 Jimmy with its Cyclops turbo and epic weight transfer. Almost every pass was on the back wheels.

Never bring a Raptor to a Dinosaur fight - there’s always a bigger Dinosaur. RAM was competing for cool points against Dodge with their TRX Jump ride-alongs. The line for this experience was shockingly long all day. Guest strapped into a RAM TRX and went for joy ride in the side complete with 2 big jumps.

Dodge's "Last Call" For The Charger and Challenger

On Monday night, Dodge unveiled their plans for the last production year for the Dodge Challenger and Charger, which will end production at the tail end of 2023. In addition to special models that will be drip-fed out, they announced the colors, the options, and probably most stunning, the ability to order a 2023 Challenger convertible.

2023 Dodge Hornet

On Tuesday, Dodge unveiled their first new product since 2012, the Hornet. A compact utility vehicle, the Hornet comes in two main flavors, the ICE-only GT and the PHEV R/T. The goal is to enter a market where driving dynamics and excitement are the last two items of consideration and give consumers something to think about. Honestly, we're thinking about the Hornet GLH Concept they teased. Something about a 300+ horsepower, all-wheel-drive CUV with Brembo brakes on it seems fun.

Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept

The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT Concept is a preview to what Dodge's plans for EV-based muscle can look like. Powered by a "Banshee" engine package, generating a howl unlike any other vehicle since "The Wraith" movie car, and featuring some inspired aerodynamic trickery, the Charger Daytona SRT Concept is giving a lot of people a lot to think about.
