The Kibbe And Friends Show: How You Do Things In Buckley-Town

03/24/2023

It has been a minute since we've checked in on Kibbe, Corndog and Bernie, yet the trio that make up the Kibbe and Friends Podcast keep on trucking right along. In their latest episode, the guys have plenty to chat about, including Rob's experience at a Darius Rucker and Eric Church concert back in the day and some cross-over work with the Dukes of Hazzard that the Knight Rider Historians (!) have put out. Of course, there is the always factual, always on-point Bernie On The News segment, this time free from the heckle of the other two hosts. But what really caught out ear this week? They go after an unlikely car movie: Black Sheep.

Remember in the mid-1990s, when David Spade and Chris Farley equaled a nice payday for everyone involved in the project? Tommy Boy absolutely killed it with the Laurel and Hardy-style pairing of Spade's snide, bookish character and Farley's unhinged but lovable oaf type as auto parts salesmen trying to keep the lights on for the town. Black Sheep was the attempt to see if lightning could strike twice in the same spot by turning Farley into the rowdy brother of a Washington State governor-candidate who needs to be taken to a nice, quiet place where noooobody is going to know he exists until the election is over. Enter bookish, sarcastic Spade, who hauls him up to picturesque Buckley, Washington to camp in a cabin, meet the local youth, and generally not make a menace. Black Sheep has laughs...the Spade/Farley duo couldn't fail...but overall it just felt like yesterday's dinner.

Black Sheep (1996) Chevrolet Caprice Cop Car

But don't write off Black Sheep just because of our words or theirs. There's plenty of laughs, but for your author, the hot-rodded '87 Chevy Caprice cop car was the star of the show. Nevermind anything that Farley says when he's describing the car, it'll make your head hurt. But you tell me that a built Caprice with a clean paint job, a great set of mag wheels, and nitrous isn't something you'd love to rock as a daily driver.
