Tyler Davis Wins Holley Sweepstakes LS Engine!

12/12/2024

In recent years, a number of lucky hot rodders have won everything from wheels and golden intake manifolds to entire vehicles in Holley Performance’s various sweepstakes. Along the way, a growing roster of fortunate gearheads has also scored custom-built high-performance engines. The latest entry in that line is set to transform a stock Chevy Silverado pickup into a tire-shredding beast.

“I saw an Instagram post for the contest and figured I’d throw my name in,” says Tyler Davis of Knoxville, Tennessee. “It didn’t cost anything to enter, so there was nothing to lose if I didn’t win.”

But then, like so many other Holley engine-giveaway winners, Davis was shocked into utter disbelief when he learned that he had won. “I was driving home from work one day when I got a call from this random number in Bowling Green, Kentucky,” he recalls. “I immediately assumed it was a spam call or something like that, but for whatever reason, I decided to pick it up anyway. The person on the other end started telling me I’d won this engine, but I was still skeptical. Then he mentioned the make and model of the truck I’m planning to put this engine in, and I suddenly got really excited. I rushed back home and sent back the paperwork as soon as I could!”

The engine itself is a stout 6.0-liter LS built by Prestige Motorsports. Outfitted with a forged stroker crank and forged connecting rods from Liberty Performance Components, along with forged pistons from DSS, the iron-block LS is designed to deliver reliable performance for years to come. Now displacing 408 cubic inches, the engine also boasts a Comp Cams hydraulic roller camshaft, Prestige Motorsports cylinder heads, and a Holley Ultra Lo-Ram intake. All of this is managed by a Holley EFI Terminator X ECU. On the dyno, this combination delivered a healthy 580.8 horsepower at 6,400 RPM and 518.1 lb-ft of torque at 4,900 RPM on pump gas, which should make Davis’ next project a particularly entertaining daily driver.

A lifelong Chevy guy, Davis already has the perfect vehicle for the engine. “I’m going to be putting it in a single-cab, short-bed 2007 Chevrolet Silverado,” he explains. “The plan is to build a cool little street truck. Since this motor was built for long-term reliability, it seems like a good candidate for a daily driver—something I can take out whenever I want and have some fun with.”

The Silverado’s 4L60E four-speed automatic gearbox has already been removed and sent off for a performance rebuild to ensure it can handle the newfound power. Davis says he’d like to repaint the truck and redo the interior at some point, but in the meantime, he’s focused on getting the Chevy up and running again as soon as the transmission is back, and he has time to devote to the build.

“I’m in the middle of a move right now, so I’m thinking the truck will be back on the road by early Spring,” he notes. “Right now, the LS is sitting on an engine stand in my garage. I still go out there regularly just to stare at it.”
