74 Dart Sport Restoration

This car was given to me when my grandfather passed away when I was 9 years old. Being too young to take care of it my father had used it to commute to work in the summers to keep it running. When I had turned 15 we had outfitted the factory 318 with a new cam and 4bbl intake to get it moving a little quicker than stock form. Over the coming years after I had modified the drive train with new gear sets and a 727 trans. In 2009 I decided to build a 408 stroker. This was a very budget build and I had managed to squeak out 320 HP at the tires, but it wasn't long until the body was showing its age. In 2014 I decided it was time to restore the Dart. It took me 3 Minnesota summers of working on this in the driveway of my dads house. It was fully torn down to a shell and was build it up to the car it is today. Along with my dads help I had done all the sheetmetal work, body work and paint, engine and drivetrain while adding some performance as well. The engine needed a new cam shaft after wiping out a lobe so I had ported my stock 360 iron heads enough so that with the new cam it managed to push out 475 hp at the crank. After all was done it is a fun little car to rip around town and I get a lot of thumbs up while cruising around.

NEW ENGINE ADVENTURE AS OF MAY 2025

As of memorial day of 2022 the crankshaft of my 408 stroker build had broke and caused engine damage. With a complete tear down the 360 block needed machine work to be usable again. I decided to this new build will be a hot stock stroke 360 with all forged internals. With recently just completing the build the dyno proved my 367 made well more than my stroker. The numbers came in at 455 lb-ft and 520 hp all while making more power than the 408 did well before its power band had.
