Front Bump Stops & 1 More Inch of Uptravel

By: David 05/20/2021

I noticed a couple of times off roading that it seemed like I bottomed out the front shocks, so I wanted to get some bump stops installed asap and I also wanted to try and squeeze out one more inch of uptravel, but I didn't want to raise the truck any higher so that meant I had to somehow lower the bottom mounts of the Shock/coilovers, but that would mean the coilover springs would hit the steering arms so I had get creative and very precise placement of the mounts, oh and some Grinding of things :-)

I have to lift it up to get the spring loose. It got a little scary there for a second... take a look at the jack stands.

It worked and I got my extra 1 inch of up travel. I went from 4.5" to 5.5". Still have 6.5" of down travel.

Next was making some bump stops, I was looking at buying Air Bump Stops, but wasn't sure I could make them work well with my setup so I decided to make some for now.

Started with some extra tubing I had, weled a plate on the end of it and welded a nut inside.

Next was make some plates for them to come in contact with.

Then weld the plates in place

Then carefully measure the length and calculate where to put the bump stops, because the axle moves forward and to the right as it moves up.

I later changed the old red bumpers to nice new black ones.
