The Dream!

By: KnitePrince 07/24/2021

In 1980, i was sixteen years old. I owned a 68 Camaro, I was installing new front springs in our shop, and a friend of the family came in, with a BRAND NEW 1980 Camaro... He, and my father installed a cam, because the stock HP was a lethargic 180 hp... they installed it, and then.. they headed up to the local tavern... I went over and sat in the car... 108 miles on the odometer.... I fell in love with that car... One thing led to another, and I was never able to OWN a 1980 camaro, but I was ALWAYS looking for the right car.... Then, one day, my wife called, and said someone I had TRIED for years to get me to sell me his car, was selling his car... I told her to BUY IT NOW! She did. (I love my wife) And, I became the proud owner of my lifelong dream car. It had 43K original miles on it, and it is in NICE shape. It is not perfect, which is... perfect... If it was perfect I couldn't drive it, and I couldn't mod it to suit me.

I ordered a 434 kit from Skip white performance, I ordered a 177 Weiand supercharger from Summit. I built it, ran it on my engine stand, and then put it in the car with a new heavy duty clutch. I ordered a powerpak rear end from Moser Engineering. 9 inch with disk brakes, and installed that as well... I ordered a 3 inch stainless exhaust system from PYPES, and bolted that in as well... I kept the AC, it still works flawlessly, so, I can be running down the freeway at 65 mph, nice and cool, AND grin as the mustang or charger pulls up beside me, and LIGHT the tires, let off a little, and leave them wide eyed in astonishment.....

Wife doesn't like the original seats, (which are perfect) so I have to replace them. I want a digital dash from Dakota, and it NEEDS traction bars badly to stop the wheel hop. (coming soon) and a couple of interior pieces that are in rough shape... rear side panels. Previous owners dog scratched them up badly. I also ordered a new lower pully from Holly/Weiand to bump it up to about 8 lbs of boost. It IS a monster, and me? I am LIVING the dream!
