Spare Tire Lift

I'm starting to get the feel of fabricating and decided to build a lift for my spare tire so I could make use of my bed when need be.


I had a general idea of what I was thinking and started laying it out with PVC pipe to see if it would work.

Then decided to start building it for real :-)

But now I had to figure out to lift it without a jack stand lol.

So I spent many hours doing different calculations for gas struts and their placement location.

But the numbers weren't working with those placements above so I had to do something that looked like it wouldn't work at all but and the numbers and calculations said it would, see below.

It wasn't real easy making brackets to fit around the tubing at those weird angles. And also making it match on the other side. Lasers helped though.

And it works!
