Scratch built is easier than rebuilding

By: Doug 11/22/2021

Got a great deal....so I thought. Until the smoke from the wiring harness, internitants and just plain wrong parts or installation procedures were discovered. It was a total hack job with a descent paint job. Discovered wiring that was twisted together and taped, twisted and heat shrunk, wire nuts and plugs bypassed. Everything, and I mean everything electrical was wired through the ignition switch. Not a single relay in entire vehicle. Nope, not even the horn or cooling fan.

Removed ALL wires and built a custom harness with proper relays and fuses.

Two, count them, two cooling fans. Once mechanical and one electric... using the same shroud that only covered half the radiator.

Removed both fans and the shroud and replaced with proper cfm electric fan that covers entire radiator and is thermostatically controlled. Engine maintains its cool now.

2BBL carb was FUBAR and found loose parts inside on attempt to rebuild. It got some good air time when I threw it as far as I could into the back yard.

Replaced intake manifold with stage I 4BBL and replaced the carb with a Sniper EFI. THAT was like putting in a new larger engine.

Added the Hyperspark distributor, the CD ignition and coil and threw in a new set of MSD 8.5 superconductor plug wires.

Whole new ride...and there is more to come.
