Quest to shattering records

By: Matthew 12/02/2022

This car was initially just a weekend track toy, and as a lot of the personal projects evolve, theres always a quest to go a little faster. After competing with global time attack for a few years, in 2018 we decided to push the car to the top of the unlimited podium and take the RWD record.

Buttonwillow raceway, the home of global time attack, had its record lap set by a NSX in 2012. We knew we had the recipe to beat it, and in the 6 years no one had touched it. So we started our quest. With some setbacks and teething issues with the car, it was becoming a reachable goal.

In 2021 We had everything ready. Car was dialed in, but early fog and an engine dumping oil on the track crippled our chances. We proudly took home the 1st place trophy overall, but the record was still our goal. We were so very close, with .3 of a second away from passing the record. We knew 2022 would be our year.

Everything on the table, the world watching, emptied our piggy banks to have multiple sets of sticker tires, and prayed for perfect weather, and we got it.

After 10 years of a record standing, the Caliber Customs crew C5 with Sean Cagle at the wheel took the RWD record. We can now stand as the fastest RWD car in GTA record at the home track buttonwillow raceway.

Huge thank you to Holley for such a reliable engine management system. Proud to be the only American car on the podium running Holley products!
