1997 S10 "Muttly"

By: Greg 06/13/2023

I purchased this truck for $750 at an insurance auction and then bought a 1996 LT1 engine and 4L60E transmission. The idea was to make this a low buck V8 swap, but things changed a bit. The truck had more damage than originally thought so we cut off the frame and made it a back-half truck. I scrapped another pro touring project and I have installed UMI control arms and sway bars along with Viking Coilover shocks. We swapped out the factory single piston brakes for Corvette brakes. The stock LT1 was rebuilt with a few minor upgrades inside, namely a Summit Stage 2 cam and some Comp Cams valve springs. Other engine modifications include an EFI Connections LS-style ignition conversion. Street FIre Coils, MSD wires, and an MSD 6AL now help out in the ignition department. The stock transmission was upgraded and rebuilt and now has a Protorque 2500 stall converter. A Ford Explorer 8.8 rear axle was put in place with 3.55 gears. It is capped off with a B&M rear diff cover. An 8 point roll bar and fuel cell have also been added. Realistically, we are probably going to stick to some autocross events and have some cheap fun with my two kids who are both interested in racing.

At the end of the summer (2023), I am going to add some 18x10 and 18x12 Rocket Racing Wheels and some bigger and stickier tires for the auto-x events.
