After adding a new fuel pump and filter and replacing the seals on the fuel injectors, the car now starts and sounds great. I fixed the vacuum lines that had been chewed through by mice.

It seems like it needs a new clutch. Replacing the master and slave cylinders and intermediate hose didn't free it up.
