Car background

By: Nick 06/02/2025

The was my Dads car, he owned it from 2003 until 2013 and turned it over to me. Car was a cam/bolt ons hardtop LT-1, M6, with 4.10 gears. I've kept it as mostly a cruiser while autocrossing a 2015 Camaro SS 1LE. In 2021 my Dad's health was declining and we had to make some changes. I sold the 2015 and needed to make a plan with this 4th gen to get it handling better for autocross and with almost no tuning available anymore for OBDII LT-1's, improving the cars drivability and mpg was going to be near impossible. After weighing options and pricing to update the engine management I decided to purchase a take out complete engine/transmission/PCM from a 60k mile 2001 Camaro SS. With help from a couple friends the majority of this swap happened in 3 days. I was able to drive the car to the shop at his house on Friday as an LT-1 and ALMOST got to drive it as an LS1 car on Sunday evening. We didn't trust the fuel filter/regulator setup good enough to hit the highway and the exhaust wasn't 100%. Big thank you to BP Automotive for building a plug and play harness that allows everything to work as original (A/C, cruise, etc). So, the car was LS swapped and then handling was the focus. I went with UMI for handling piecing my own version of their corner max kit. Front brakes are Brembo with Hawk HP+ pads. Rear axle is a Moser 3.73 12 bolt. Interior is mostly stock besides Braum racing seats and subtle radio upgrades. Thank you for viewing!
