Original Upholstery – XR7 Leather

3/14/2019 – You would think having the interior upholstery replaced would a straight forward proposition. However, you would be mistaken.  This is a 67 XR7 model and originally had Leather upholstery that is next to impossible to find as is the seat foam.  After much research I found a company called Distinctive Industries where I could order the original leather upholstery.  Fabricated of two grains of high-quality smooth leather (Center portion of seat) and rich rough leather (remaining areas of seat).  The seat foam used in the build is from American Cushion Industries and consists of a 67 Mustang cushion and 65-66 Mustang Deluxe back. This is the best combination of foam to begin the re-upholstery for a 67 XR7.  The back required about 1 inch of extra foam padding and the seat was built up slowly.  Now the car has its original upholstery once again and the quality is amazing.  I added Distinctive Industries Carbon Fiber Seat Heater Kit that provide high and low heat settings.  The sequence of pictures shows the original rear seats, frames immediately after removal of old upholstery, final powder coating of the frames, and the new upholstery prior to installation.  The final pictures are of the seats being test fitted in the car prior to final assembly.
