This is our 1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL-SE LS swap RXChev'n. The goal of this was to replace the unreliable rotary engine with some real torque and power. We used a 2007 Saab 9-7 Aero (Trailblazer) LS engine. This is a 5.3L aluminum block, drive by wire engine. Stock cam. We didn't need a ton of power so we left the stock cam in the engine for now. Holley low profile oil pan with a road race baffle installed. The front crossmember does have to be notched to fit the engine and oil pan.
Backing up the LS is an American Powertrain prepped TKO 5-speed, Centerforce clutch and Hydramax hydraulic throwout bearing. The engine and transmission was mounted to the car using a Granny's Speed Shop LS swap kit for Rx-7s.
Engine efi is handled by a Holley Dominator LS system, Sniper low profile intake and Holley injectors. Fuel supplied by a Holley retro-fit intake pump using the stock Rx-7 fuel tank. All fittings are by Earl -6 push lock. Ignition is handled by MSD LS coils. Data acquisition and gauges are on the Holley Pro 7" Digital Dash.
Holley 120 amp alternator and mount powers the electrical system with an Odyssey battery mounted in the rear.
Exhaust is custom built with Hooker LS block huggers and Borla single 3" muffler.
Steering is a custom mounted rack and pinion. Suspension is custom coilovers, KYB shocks and 5-lug Turbo II RX-7 brake conversion. More to come on the suspension later on.
