Vehicle Overview

This project is based on a 1937 T23 box truck, heavily modified into a functional 4x4 build while retaining its vintage character. The frame has been cut down to reduce overall length and improve proportions and usability. Underneath, it’s been upgraded with ¾-ton 4x4 axles from a 1970 Chevy truck, giving it a much stronger foundation and true off-road capability compared to the original setup. Power comes from a 1993 Chevrolet 292ci inline-six, a classic and reliable engine known for its torque and durability. The engine is paired with a SM465 4-speed manual transmission, backed by a married NP205 transfer case, making the drivetrain extremely robust and well-suited for both work, and daily commute. Currently, the truck is in the bodywork phase of the build. The cab is being sorted and refined. The rear wide open for future direction—whether that ends up being a flatbed, service body, or something more period-correct. Overall, the project blends 1930s truck styling with heavy-duty Chevy running gear, aiming for a unique, capable, and mechanically simple vintage 4x4.

Future Plans

Future Plans The next mechanical phase of the build will focus on improving reliability, drivability, and ease of use while keeping the inline-six character intact. The 292 Chevy inline-six will be upgraded with a single-barrel EFI system, paired with an HEI distributor, eliminating carburetor tuning issues and providing more consistent cold starts, smoother running, and improved overall dependability. A 5-speed manual transmission is planned to replace the current setup, while retaining the NP205 transfer case. This upgrade will provide better road manners and gearing flexibility, especially for highway driving, without sacrificing the strength needed for work or commute use. Interior work will include fitting an early 1960s Chevy truck dash. This keeps the interior period-appropriate while allowing for better gauge layout, switch placement, and overall functionality compared to the original dash. Overall, the goal remains to build a usable, mechanically modernized vintage truck that blends classic styling with practical upgrades, making it something that can be driven regularly and worked hard without constant tinkering.
