  • Vehicle Overview

I started this Duster project the summer of 2009. It's still a work in progress. Originally a slant six power plant, I was going to clone it into a 340 Duster like the one I had in high school. In 2011, I got the idea to put a Gen 3 Hemi into it. The car was already in paint, so it was a real challenge to get everything to fit. At that time there weren't many Hemi swaps being done. I spent a lot of time researching the internet. I finally chose to use the Mopar 4 barrel carbureted intake manifold and the MSD Atomic Throttle Body EFI system to control fuel and the MSD Hemi6 controller for spark. To this day, I haven't run across anyone else running this set up. In addition to the Hemi transplant, the Duster has a 518 Torqueflite automatic overdrive transmission, a 390:1 gear set, and 4 wheel disc brakes. Shifting is done with a console and shifter from a 2006 Chrysler 300. The front seats are from a 2005 Chrysler Sebring convertible. I made a custom dash for new electronic Marshall gauges. The Duster was finally back on the road in 2014. I have put over 3000 miles on it and it's a blast to drive. Over this past fall/winter I added electric power assist steering from a 2009 Toyota Corolla. It works pretty well but the car needs a new alignment

    Future Plans

I'd like to design and install a custom center console. Get the front seat reupholstered to match the rear seats. Maybe lower the stance a little, and replace th 8-1/4" rear end with a beefier 8-3/4".
