I found Newbie languishing out in the weather at Flying Circus English Cars in 2012, while the owner tried to decide what to do with him...I saw great potential under the layers of dirt on the paint and green mildew on the interior. After a year and a half, I prevailed on the owner to sell, and he agreed...since then I have stripped Newbie to the bare metal on the interior, found very little rust, then rustproofed and reinstalled all of the original parts, which cleaned up very nicely, with a lot of advice from Jimmy Browne, detailer extraodinaire. The original leather seats now reside in Dan and Pat Amey's B roadster, and I now sit on Miata seats that I recovered. I have completely rebuilt the mechanics, including mildly warmed over B motor, overdrive tranny, HS4 carbs, Pertronix ignition, stainless steel TT exhaust, front coilover shocks, rear Spax coils, and on and on...ending last year with a new paint job...done by Phil McCarl at Master Blend in Wake Forest--who has painted a number of our club cars over the years...but NONE of the final results would have been without the help and advice of my fellow NCMGCC whizkid mechanics / advisors, and the LBC community, and especially Max Fulton and the folks at Flying Circus--what a great bunch! Newbie has been to Ohio, West Virginia, all over NC and Virginia, and an appearance at the Cars and Coffee at the Amelia Island Florida Concours week this past March...the miles of smiles continue! But I could never leave well enough alone...So this is what has happened while waiting out the pandemic...Newbie gets a transplant...What started as thinking about how much fun it would be to finally build a sleeper and a ride to really carve the twisties in the mountains all over the east ended up with a recent total rebuild of a 95 Pontiac 3.4 V6 and 94 Camaro 5 speed tranny, now fitted with close ratio 95 Mustang gears. Motor was bored .030 over, with new pistons and rings, resized rods, Edelbrock Performer cam, all new innards ( I was except polished crank, all new bearings, etc...and topped off with a Holley 0-8007 390 CFM 4 barrel. Stock heads were refreshed using all new valves, springs, followers for the cam, head bolts...the whole she-bang. It's undergoing break in miles now whenever the sun shines, and like it was with the stock drivetrain, it will be seen all over the east and midwest (I hope!) By the way...the almost newly rebuilt B motor and overdrive tranny, plus oil cooler, clutch, radiator, driveshaft, SS exhaust...all went into a fellow club members early 74 roadster that had just blown up--while still with the temporary tags on it! Bought on the internet from out of state, reported rebuilt, etc...too often a true story. But the previous owner did come forth with a settlement, so now Newbie is a donor, and I am delighted that we were able to make a deal to keep all of the drivetrain intact and together in another "new B". Oops, almost forgot...I treated Newbie to a new set of prefinished black 15" x 72 spoke wheels, with my favorite go to tire, a set of 195/50R15 General Altimax R43 all season performance tires....great curve carvers in any weather!

    Future Plans

Maybe a sound system upgrade, but this should do it for a while...my hope now is to maintain, enjoy, and... DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF! Cheers!
