Nick Enberg was an earlier arriver at Holley LS Fest 2021 with his beautiful street/strip 1964 Chevelle. We caught him in the technical inspection line, where officials combed over the clean Bowtie. Enberg’s blue Chevy looks like your basic 11-second car, until he reveals the turbocharged 370-inch LS…and you realize there’s a parachute out back.
Enberg’s build is based around a LS truck block topped with TFS heads, a Holley EFI intake and engine internals capable of handling boost from the 76mm turbo. It also uses a Holley HP EFI system and is backed by a Powerglide and a GM 12-bolt with 3.73 gears.
The Chevelle is powered by a turbocharged 370-inch LS engine that provides plenty of grunt.
The Big Lake, Minnesota resident made the haul to Bowling Green’s Beech Bend Raceway Park and he plans to compete in the True Street class. True Street is a heads-up category designed for street-legal cars and trucks and it includes a 30-mile cruise followed by passes down the drag strip. Vehicles must use DOT-legal tires and have working lights, horn and other street-oriented safety equipment. It’s open to any/all vehicles powered by a GM LS or current generation LT-style power plants.
In addition, all vehicles must have the proper NHRA safety equipment for the elapsed time the vehicle is capable of running. Enberg’s caged Chevy has run as quick as 8.89 at 156 mph and we look for him to be a contender in the class.
