Holley MoParty 2021: Rick Wahl's 1972 Dodge Colt

Back in the day, the Pro Stock 1972 Dodge Colts were the definition of “wild”. The Pro Stock Colts, those little captive-import gas-sippers from the swanky 70's gas-crunch shotgun marriage between Mopar and Mitsubishi might not have been the most aspirational car to own, but a change in the NHRA rules in 1972 that gave weight breaks to small-wheelbase cars gave the little Colts infamy. Shove a 426 Hemi into a car barely bigger than the engine and watch all sorts of hell break loose…yes, Dodge did just that.

Often considered one of the most unstable Pro Stock cars ever, this exact car (then Hemi-powered and Lenco-shifted) back-flipped at Bristol…right at the line as the wheelie bar wasn't lowered in position. Wheelie bars notwithstanding, the short-wheelbase, Elephant-motored Colts were a handful off the line and on the top-end.

Accompanied by his red Doberman, "Zoomie," Rick Wahl gave us the skinny on his Colt as we saw it at Beech Bend. It's now a bracket brawler with the wheelbase extended a few inches (from 92" to 95") and utilizes a 360-inch Mopar small block and Powerglide for motivation.

It's run a best of 9.89 @ 135 in the quarter and 6.16 in the 1/8th-mile.
