Road-Kill made me do it

By: leana 02/28/2021

The reason I wanted this truck was a episode of Road-Kill. The OG muscle truck inspired me to make a 69-ish version that sounded just like the muscle truck. I blame Frieburger and Finnagin for me building this truck.

Thinking my car was broken beyond repair, I took out some money to lay down on something else. Then, it turned out, my little car didn't need a new motor after all. I had a handful of cash burning a hole in my pocket I decided to look for my dream truck instead. I figured that if I couldn't find something I liked then I would take the money back to the bank like a responsible adult. But just then, crawling over derelict wrecks in a junkyard, I found this thing in the very back corner with a bucket for an engine. Remarkably rust free for a 50 year old truck. I asked how much, the guy at the counter said "$500," I said "sold." Like a kid in an amusement park with the biggest stuffed toy in hand, I got it home then started looking for a LS motor. Found a vortex 6.0l liter in another junkyard and began the arduous task of removing the single cylinder bucket to make room for my new-ish iron LS. The 4 speed manual grany-trany bolted right up thankfully. Saving me a lot of money initially. Was a pain to make the clutch and pilot bearing work though. But, American Powertrain saved the day with their hydraulic throw-out bearing and master-cylinder kit with a Willwood clutch pedal. I've replaced all the wiring and lights with LED units. It has a built 9-inch axle with torsen locker and upgraded trailing arms. Willwood disk brakes on the back, factory disk up front. The motor is completely stock but I do have a Radium fuel system up to the fuel rails with an Areomotive fuel pump controller. I put in some junkyard bucket sets with universal seat belts. The hood came from another junkyard while the tailgate came from the same yard I found the truck in. The only rust on the truck is the floor and front inner fenders and core support. It's not fast yet but it screams like the god of thunder with it's dyno-max race bullet mufflers.

My plans are to fix the rust, add a roll-cage, drop in a race transmission and try to get 800-ish supercharged horsepower. That "should" put me solidly into the 10s. In theory.
