Vehicle Overview

This 383 Formula S model is one of 395 built in 1968. While most 383 Formula S models were black or red with similar interior colors, the Sable White exterior with the Frost Blue interior combination is said to be a rare combination. With this in mind the car was taken down to bare metal and repainted as you see it. No rust was present with only a few dents requiring repair. Again, with the rarity of the vehicle, under hood modifications were limited to those that easily could be returned to stock. This precluded any panel/firewall modifications that would have permitted the addition of power steering or a/c. An aluminum radiator has been added. While the MSD distributor is readily visible the MSD ignition controller is hidden underneath the battery tray. Otherwise the engine compartment appears to be stock. The 383 Super Commando has been bored and stroked and upgraded with SCAT components to achieve 500 CI. The suspension has been upgraded with bigger sway bars front and rear, and the addition of front disc brakes from a 1969 Dart. The exhaust system has been modified with stainless pipes and stainless Magnaflow mufflers. The rims are classic Cragar SS that are true to the period. The Frost Blue interior remains stock. As an aside, this car was used as a visual reference for the production of the Forza Motorsports 4 video game.
