1978-1983 Chevrolet Malibu - LS Swap

In 1978, the Malibu completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate as the car shifted from the A-Body chassis to the new G-Body platform. Despite falling victim to malaise era performance standards from the factory, the G-Body serves as a great platform for performance. Our bolt-in engine swap systems can have you up and running in no time with modern Gen III/IV LS Power.

Step 1: Engine and Transmission Mounts

  • Get that GM LS Engine Mounted in the 1978-1988 GM G-Body
  • Transmission Options: TH400, 200R4, 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, 4L75E, 4L80E, 4L85E, T56, and T56 Magnum
  • Choose The Crossmember Adapter to Match Your Desired Transmission (T56 & T56 Magnum do not need an Adapter)
  • Vehicles That Didn't Come from the Factory w/ the 200R4 Transmisison Need Adapter 12647HKR

Step 2: Oil Pans

  • Factory oil pans don't fit or they hang too low on engine swaps
  • Engine swap oil pans provide maximum clearance to the chassis and ground
  • OE (Original Equipment) style fitment for durability, strength, and proper sealing
  • Choose from natural aluminum casting, carbon black ceramic finish, or fabricated sheetmetal depending on the application
  • Complete kit with sump baffle, OE style pickup, drain plug, oil filter stud, and oil passage cover

Step 3: Headers and Exhaust

  • Swap Manifolds (Stainless or Cast Iron) Work Together with the Motor Mounts & Crossmembers for an Easy Engine Swap
  • Aluminized Pre-Bent Tailpipes available for Budget or Custom Builds
  • Exhaust Systems Available in 2.5" and 3" Diameters are Chassis Specific and Can Be Used With Nearly any Engine and Header Combo

Step 4: EFI Fuel System

Step 5: Radiators

  • 100% TIG welded (brazed) seams
  • Billet Aluminum Filler Neck and OEM style Brass Petcock
  • Polished top and tanks for custom show appearance

Step 6: Swap Accessories

  • Bolt-in DBW pedal bracket requires no fabrication
  • Compatible with Holley DBW pedal part # 145-160 or OEM C6 Corvette pedal
  • Steering shaft replaces the factory rag joint with a modern steering shaft featuring universal joints at both ends
