Day two of RMRW Race Week 2.0 finds our competitors heading south into Texas, to Texas Motorplex. Sitting just off of Highway 287 between Ennis and Waxahachie in the southeastern area of the Dallas metropolitan region, the Motorplex is one of the younger dragstrips in the region, built in 1986 as an NHRA "super track" by former Funny Car driver Billy Meyer. The all-concrete track sits just 500 feet above sea level and the weather is ideal for racing most of the time. After a drive of about 250-ish miles south from Thunder Valley, the Race Week competitors are already starting to notice the strain.
In Pro Street, former champion Tom McGilton took a 20-second lap after his Camaro ZL1 refused to come up onto the transbrake. Mike Finnegan also took a 20-second lap, but seeing the driveshaft shot out of the back of the "Rubber Duck" 1967 Pontiac Firebird. Doug Cook's Nova had a dramatic engine failure that caused the car to slap the wall with the passenger side, but the Nova is still in competition, body rash and all. There were also reports of trailers rolled over as a result of some traffic dodging, very colorful language set aside for driving through the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, plenty of officers who wanted to check out the cars a bit closer than drivers would've liked, and other minor maladies. The biggest drama involved a certain gas station famous throughout Texas that causes customers to shell out tons of money on snack foods and, in a couple of cases, mascot outfits.
