What Have I Done?

Part of what I love about old 80’s Japanese cars are their lightweight, small size. This also creates problems for me, being 6’-1”. However, with the engine bay right behind you, the front firewall on the MR2 is impressively far towards the front, giving excellent leg room. The primary purpose for MisterTwo is to give you a feel-like-a-racecar experience. Part of that experience is having a gutted, bare bones interior. The best part about that is, it's absolutely free! There honestly isn't a huge amount of weight savings to be had by removing what little there is of the already unimpressive quantity of insulation, carpeting, etc. The real weight savings comes from the HVAC system and sound system removal. The A/C system has been completely removed in its entirety, while I decided to not shoot myself in the foot and leave the heater core hard lines. This will allow me to create a small, lightweight heater system that will be used solely for defogging the front windshield. For now however, we are in the featherweight category.

The addition of a racing OMP steering wheel and quick disconnect, short throw shifter and ball knob, and solid shifter bushings further enhances the overall race car experience. A lightweight flywheel and 6 puck racing clutch definitely compliments the snappy gear changes.

There is definitely the possibility of reintroducing some types of interior components, to finish off the look without sacrificing weight savings, feel, and performance. Perhaps some tinwork, or custom dash are definitely not out of the question, so long as a roll cage can still fit into the future.
