My 1975 Corvette

By: michael 08/01/2021

Hello,

I'm building a 1975 Corvette. Currently, it is a running and driving car. It has a 496 cubic inch big block chevy, turbo 400 trans, and it is a blast to drive. I bought it with a small block in it. The car was in Santa Rosa, CA and I drove it the 3 hours home. Within 3 months time, I swapped in the big block. I did all the work myself in my backyard, except for the machining of the block and the exhaust system.

The 496 started as a 1977, 2 bolt main 454. It has been bored .060 over. It now has Wiseco forged pistons, Scat connecting rods, and an Eagle stroker crank. I installed a Lunati .600 lift cam, Crane hydraulic roller lifters, and Crane pushrods. The heads are "Offshore" aftermarket aluminum, rectangular port heads, complete with Comp Cams hardware. There are ARP studs throughout the entire engine. The intake system is an Edelebrock old school Victor intake, with Holley Sniper Xflow EFI. I also installed Holley Sniper electronic ignition system. I installed all aluminum pulleys, an aluminum 4 core radiator, aluminum water pump, aluminum brackets, and a Powerhouse 150 amp alternator.

The trans is the original 1975 Corvette Turbo 400. I rebuilt it myself using parts from B and M, and Trans Go. It has a 2500 B and M stall converter. It's hooked up to the stock Corvette IRS, with the stock 3.42 posi rearend.

I'm getting ready to do the suspension next. I bought a Prothane complete bushing kit for the entire car. I also Have Wilwood 6 piston front, and 4 piston rear calipers, and a set of Wilwood Matrix front and rear brake rotors. The front end is getting all new ball joints, tie rod ends, and an 1 1/2 inch sway bar. The rear is getting heavy duty control arms and a 3/4 inch rear sway bar.

I've always wanted a big block Corvette, and feel very fortunate that I got the chance to build the car I've wanted since as far back as I can remember. It is so much fun to drive, and if I can ever stop driving it for just a week or two, I'll finish up the suspension and brakes and have a truly awesome car. Thanks for reading this, and good luck to all on whatever it is that you are building for yourself.
