1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Custom Deluxe
Was originally a 250 I6 truck, but at some point a 350 out of a mid-80s truck was swapped in. Now I have a LY6 6.0 that I plan on installing.
Stock, gutless 350 with a Rochester Quadrajet
Turbo 350 trans w/ a NP203 transfer case swapped to part-time
Open diff. front and rear
Luckily it has power steering and power brakes
Besides the rust in the floorboards, and a few dings here and there, this truck is actually pretty straight. It was my great-uncles, and I received it as a Christmas present from my Grandpa and Step-dad. This is my first project, and I've been trying to make as much progress as I can for the past 5.5 years. The plan is to completely "restore" it. By that I mean, I want to fix it up, though it won't be restored back to factory spec. I actually just picked up a LY6 6. I'm not sure if I am going to go crazy with performance on that or keep it mild yet, I guess my budget will determine that for me. But, I'd like to at least get somewhere around 400-450hp at the wheels. I haven't decided yet on beefing up the turbo 350 or keeping my eyes out for a 4l80e or built 4l60e. I don't intend on hot rodding it too much, but I do want to build this thing to last so reliability is high up on the list of wants. As for everything else, it will be done up to resemble a Cheyenne trim level truck from back in the day, with likely a two-tone, yellow and white paint job. Also keeping my eyes out for some period correct goodies to really give it that 70s-80s vibe.
4l80e, built 4l60e, or built Turbo 350
Half Cage at least for the passengers in the back, I intend to let my kids ride around back there whenever they come along
Plaid designed seats/inserts
Potentially a roots style supercharger
Complete frame restoration with new suspension components
New wheels and tires, likely plain steelies with center caps and some BFG M/T 33 or 35s if I have the clearance, not looking to lift it
Vintage Air. No A/C isn't fun in the south
Upgraded, vintage styled radio system
Custom Vinyl Top with snaps to integrate into roll cage
