Classic Holley carbs have been a staple for rodders around the world for decades. They're calibrated for use on stock to mildly modified vehicles and have that classic Holley look. Holley's 0-8007 is calibrated and intended for small V8s or 6 cylinder engines as well as 2x4 street tunnel ram style set ups. Plus, it is Gold Dichromate coated for durability and classic Holley looks. 57 Ford cruising with new 390 CFM Holley 4-barrel

The 390 CFM 4-barrel Holley (P/N 0-8007) was a perfect match for my 1957 292 Ford Y-block engine. I replaced the stock 2-barrel carburetor, which had been mounted to a factory 4-barrel manifold through a flow-restricting adapter plate. The carburetor selector guide on the Holley website helped me find the right carburetor for my application. I'm glad that I selected the electric choke, which works flawlessly. The carb's classic appearance is so appealing that I hated to attach the air cleaner!

This is the best possible carburetor for a street, stock 302

The 390 version of this carburetor has proved to be the perfect carb to get maximum performance of my stock, street 302 on a 66 Mustang. Out of the box it had fabulous acceleration off the line, it had fabulous acceleration at higher speeds, it gave me a steady, low idle, it gave me no stumbles, and it gave me clean plugs. Great Holley design and workmanship. Carroll Shelby picked 'em for his Mustangs and he was right. When I put my 302 in, I first put a on a Holley 600-cubic-feet-per-minute carb that was otherwise identical to this one. The plugs kept fouling, and the engine would stumble on acceleration. I talked to Holley and they said the ports and accelerator nozzle needed to be cut down, which would have improved performance some, but I discovered the formula for carburetor sizing, see, e.g., https://www.speedwaymotors.com/the-toolbox/what-size-carburetor-do-i-need/28634. The formula is Carburetor CFM = Cubic Inches x max RPM x Volumetric Efficiency ÷ 3456. A street 302's max RPM is 5,800 and a street volumetric efficiency is 80%, so that's 302x5,800x80%/3456 = a 405 CFM carburetor, making the 390 CFM the perfect size by formula. If I had kept the bigger carb and resized the ports and pump jet the venturi, which cannot be modified, would still have been too big for best fuel delivery to a 302, and I would have spent a lot of money buying and trying different port and jet sizes. I got much better performance and spent less cash by buying this carb and selling my beautiful 600 CFM to someone who could give it a good home on a bigger block. You would think that the bigger carb would be better but "lots of gas" is another way of saying "not enough air" and not enough air is as big a problem as not enough gas.

Wow! Could not be happier. Based on a previous review for use in a Mustang stock 302 I decided to give this a try. Spot-on calibration out of the box, just needed to lower the fast idle. Curb idle is so smooth that I sometimes have to check the tach to confirm it hasn't died. Fairly stock engine... E-Performer 289 intake, stock exhaust manifolds with dual mufflers, forged 10:1 pistons. So far no hot-starting problems, but I am using Edelbrock's 5/16" heat insulating dual-plane base gasket. Smooth acceleration off the idle and cruise circuits. This was a huge improvement over my previous 30+ year old Holley emissions carb (600 cfm 6919), and it doesn't set off the smoke alarm every time I pull it into the garage!

Could not be happier with this carb. It replaced a 650 CFM that was a bear to get to run right on my mostly stock 302. The large 650 was just too much for the application. An old-time mechanic told me once that it's counter-intuitive, but sometimes less is more in situations where low and mid-range performance is more important that wide open top end. Had to do with venturi velocity and other factors. It bolted right up to the Edelbrock Performer manifold. I did have to relocate the PCV hose to the rear and I needed to install and adjust the transmission kickdown kit (1 bolt). I also did a minor float bowl adjustment and set the idle for an automatic transmission, but other than that, it was "plug and play". Runs a 100% better, smooth transition through the RPM range and did not suffer at all on hard acceleration. Would totally recommend this carburetor.

Probably the best carb I've had on this 300.been running it for the last 2 years with no issues except my sencondarys never would open (no big deal cheaper on fuel that way!) I went and tore it down and cleaned it the other day and noticed who ever built it from factory used alittle to much tack to hold that o-ring in place and it blocked the port so they wouldn't open, otherwise I've never had an issue with it!
