  • Vehicle Overview

Largely original '66 F-100 2wd short bed custom cab with a mildly built '65 Lincoln 430ci MEL big block swapped in place of the original 352ci FE engine. Built June 1966 in the San Jose, CA plant and optioned with a 352/4-speed/Dana 60 "Powr-Lok" rear/9 leaf rear spring package in Silver Frost, a passenger car color for 1966. The late MEL block was modified to fit the FE bell housing (early blocks are a bolt-on), motor mounts were fabricated, and passenger side exhaust manifold spacers were made for starter clearance. The truck has not been cut in any way or modified beyond the engine swap and could easily be returned to stock. Engine modifications include a Holley 750 DP with a 1" tapered combo/0.5" open phenolic spacer (for plenum volume and heat insulation) on a '58 intake manifold, cam reground to 428CJ/390GT specs on a 112 lsa, Moon valve covers, Comp Cams valve gear, Brent Lykins Motorsports roller tip rockers, and custom length Smith Bros pushrods on Howard's Cams lifters. A recurved stock distributor with a Pertronix Digital HP ignition spins a Melling HV oil pump using a Canton pickup through a Precision Oil Pumps driveshaft shortened to fit the MEL. Beyond the unusual option list, the truck was built right after the 872XXX serial number changeover and apparently came from the factory with one pre-872 front composite drum/spindle assembly, and one post-872 full cast drum and spindle assembly. It's since been converted to the later full cast drums and spindles on both front wheels with modern long-nose wheel studs, making that the only other deviation from stock thus far.

    Future Plans

The truck serves as a fair weather daily driver and still gets used like a truck. Future plans include continuing its sympathetic restoration, driving it, and trying to squeeze a little more juice out of it with some long tube Flowtech headers modified for the MEL. This truck tells a story and I'm just writing its next chapter.
