  • Vehicle Overview

Sarge is 1978 CJ-5 Basic, narrow track with a 258 inline 6 cylinder (4.2L) with a Carter 1 barrel carburetor. I purchased Sarge in May of 2021 as he really was a untouched Jeep for the most part but I have made major updates to the body and drivetrain. Below are the modifications to Sarge: • Installed a Jasper 258 (4.2L) engine and rebuilt the Carter HF carburetor. • Removed and reinstalled entire new fuel system and installed a Holley Sniper EFI 2. • Rebuilt T-150 transmission and installed a new LUC clutch • The AMC20 rear axle is a two piece axle. Replaced the two piece axle design with a 1 piece axle kit from Yukon that resolves the issue. I also installed an Eaton TrueTrac for increased traction. • The Dana 30 front axle was sound but I installed an Eaton TrueTrac for increased traction. • Installed a Bestop Supertop Jeep top soft top with doors. I also use a Bestop Bikini top during the Summer with Bestop vinyl doors. Also installed Bestop seats. • Used Coraseal on the frame and axles to turn the rust into metal. • Removed the roll bar and sanded and rattle canned it gloss black. Same for the windshield frame, dash, engine compartment, tub interior and the exterior mirrors. • Replaced the windshield glass. • Replace the tail lights with Quake LED lights. • Purchased the American Star for the hood and glove box. • Completed the body work a straightened out most imperfections. • Installed the roll bar then taped the entire tub area, tires and frame to prevent over spray from the raptor liner. • Purchased UPOL Raptor liner with Olive Green, spray gun. I painted the entire Jeep exterior with Raptorliner and also used Black Raptorliner to paint the wheel wells. • I painted the interior tub with black Raptorliner for durability. • Installed black diamond plated rocker guards and rear short corner panels to protect from trail debris. • Replaced the steering column to a GM column with tilt wheel. • Had a new custom built rear steel bumper built and installed with a spare tire. • Installed KC HiLites on the front bumper. • Purchased and installed Rhino Shackle Hitch Receivers on the front bumper, welding and securing via bolt to the frame. This gives me a recovery point on the front.
