  • Vehicle Overview

Sarge is 1978 CJ-5 Basic, narrow track with a 258 inline 6 cylinder (4.2L) with a Carter 1 barrel carburetor, rear AMC 20 and a front Dana 30 axle. I purchased Sarge in May of 2021 as he really was a untouched Jeep for the most part but I have made major updates to the body and drivetrain. Below are the modifications to Sarge: • Replaced the windshield then taped it up and readied it for painting. • Added a Pirate Rated 4x4, Redneck Edition and Don't Tread on Me badges to the body and dash. • Replace the tail lights with Quake LED lights and all marker lights with new assemblies and LEDs. • Removed the roll bar and sanded and rattle canned it gloss black. Same for the windshield frame, dash, engine compartment, tub interior and the exterior mirrors. • Used Coraseal on the frame and axles to turn the rust into metal. I love science! It did a great job but I still have more to do this winter while Sarge is parked. • Purchased the American Star for the hood and glove box and CAREFULLY placed that with myself, wife and 3 daughters. • Completed the body work a straightened out most imperfections. • Installed the roll bar then taped the entire tub area, tires and frame to prevent over spray from the raptor liner. • Purchased a the Raptor liner with Olive Green, spray gun. I painted the entire Jeep exterior with Raptorliner and also used Black to paint the wheel wells. • The AMC20 rear axle is a two piece axle. Replaced with a 1 piece axle kit for the AMC20 from Yukon that resolves the issue. I also installed an Eaton TrueTrac for increased traction. • The Dana 30 front axle was fine but I installed an Eaton TrueTrac for increased traction. • Installed new black wheel fender flares to replace the old ones. • Installed black diamond plated rocker guards and rear short corner panels to protect from trail debris. • Installed carpet into the tub and later decided that I didn't like the fitment and moisture beneath the pad. Removed and Black Raptorlined the interior. • Installed Bestop seats and saved the original back seat! • Installed Bestop soft top. • Replace the shifter and transfer case knobs and boots. • Replaced the steering column to a GM column with tilt wheel. • Had a new custom built rear steel bumper built and installed with a spare tire. • Installed KC HiLites on the front bumper. • Installed a Bestop Supertop Jeep top soft top with doors. • Purchased and installed Rhino Shackle Hitch Receivers on the front bumper, welding and securing via bolt to the frame. This gives me a recovery point on the front. • Removed and reinstalled entire new fuel system. • Rebuilt Carter HF carburetor. • Rebuilt T-150 transmission • Installed new LUC clutch
