Vehicle Overview

In 1972 I purchased a very low miles CJ5 from a Dealer in suburban Detroit who gave me the story that I was the first retail buyer as it had been owned by Kaiser Jeep…and then AMC because it was a “one of” build for Jeep ...by Hurst ...for promotion. I believe he and the service manager (who raced jeeps) claimed that it was a project vehicle created by the Hurst Research and Promotions shop not too far away in Warren MI. A Picture is below from about 1972 - it gives some of the modifications to what had been a standard CJ5 with V6 and factory forest green paint…. The modifications included: wider tires and wheels, side pipe covers with headers and glass-packs behind, Holley Carb and Chrome Air filter, Chrome bumpers, and: a hand laid fiberglass one piece from clip with a hood inset - note that this is rounded, and longer then a stock grill and fenders. There was also a fiberglass rear cover behind the seats, Hurst “roll-control” and Hurst shift knob, a custom bright green paint job (it was close to Chryslers Hemi Green but not exact) and Hurst badges replaced the V6 badges on the sides. After all these years — the Jeep went through lots of changes as we are ardent for wheelers - so unfortuntily most all the original Jeep has been changed many times over. But I retained the Front Clip and Side Pipes….. so my goal is to find someone that may want to use them to start of a recreation of the Hurst Jeep. So, I was looking to get any leads on Hurst projects, or history of the promotial projects. I grew up in the heyday of Muscle Cars in Detroit and even spent years in the automotive industry so have seen a fair share of AMC, Olds and other Hurst collaborations. I am aware that Hurst dolled up a CJ but it was mostly stickers and a 1968 so not this Jeep.

Future Plans

I have the custom front clip and side pipes and would love to have help substantiating this was made by Hurst Research and Performance
