The 1st Generation Charger was the result of Dodge answering the call of dealers to have something to compete with the Ford Mustang, Plymouth Barracuda, and other mid-sized sports cars. Dodge immediately entered it into with the optional 426 cubic inch Hemi, and the rest became history.
